Scottish Highland Cattle · Menden in the Sauerland

Robust animals,
outdoors on pasture all year round.

A small herd of Scottish Highland cattle – kept in a natural, extensive way, right in the countryside of the Sauerland.

The Herd

Animals with character, farming with heart

On the edge of Menden, in the heart of the Sauerland, our small herd of Scottish Highland cattle lives outdoors on pasture all year round. They are calm, curious animals with the characteristic long coat and striking horns, unfazed by wind and weather.

Species-appropriate, extensive husbandry matters to us: plenty of space, plenty of time and a respectful approach to the animals. They grow up calmly and free of stress within the herd, just as their nature intends. Anyone who has once stood among them quickly understands why this breed captivates so many people.

The Breed

A breed with special qualities

Scottish Highland cattle are among the oldest and most robust cattle breeds in the world – perfect for year-round pasture keeping.

🌦️

Robust & weather-hardy

The dense, long coat reliably protects against cold, wet and wind. Highland cattle need no barn and stay outdoors all year round.

🌿

Frugal & calm

They cope well even with sparse grazing, are exceptionally calm in temperament and sociable within the herd.

🐄

Natural & extensive

Extensive pasture keeping with plenty of space and time – the foundation for healthy animals that grow up free of stress.

🌍

Natural landscape keepers

Through their gentle grazing, Highland cattle preserve valuable pastureland and promote a species-rich cultural landscape.

With passion

Outdoors all year. Close to nature.

For us, the Highlands are more than cattle – they are a piece of lived connection to animal and landscape. Many people know us through the animals, and it is exactly this closeness that we treasure.
